Advertising has for long been a question of art (creation) to best engage with audiences. The rise of digital has brought a lot of science to measure how these audiences engage with messages. Now a third pillar – technology – has further disrupted art and science by providing agencies and marketers with the tools to better target these audiences.


Currently, we are seeking a Senior Vice President, Global Head of Digital Revenue who will be responsible for: 


  1. Maximizing Overall Revenue Your focus will be on maximizing the overall digital revenue to The Economist, utilizing a combination of direct sold, private marketplace and open market revenue channels.

  2. Manage Ad Operations, Yield Management & On and Off Domain Audience Sales and Execution Teams – You will manage the day to day operations of the Teams to ultimately maximize revenue whilst ensuring an efficient delivery of campaigns and impressions, both on and off domain.

  3. Manage Programmatic Revenue Channel – Your expertise in understanding the programmatic revenue channel will allow you to guide the Team as to the appropriate technologies, partners, pricing strategies, ad units, and data targeting techniques.  You believe strongly in a testing protocol that will allow the company to learn and improve daily towards its goal of maximizing revenue.

  4. Manage Audience Selling Products, On and Off Domain You will help sell revenue generating solutions to drive engagement with audiences, both on and off domain using targeting capabilities and appropriate technologies and creative (rich media, video, content).


The ideal candidate is someone who is familiar with social networks, media platforms, programmatic buying and selling and content marketing; curious about what’s happening beyond the Internet; knowledgeable about designing solutions and applying actionable insights from data, industry and market; interested to help clients find the widest and most engaged audience solutions possible.


In this role you would be expected to:


  • Develop and implement strategies to help growing sales revenue, across web, apps, social, video and podcast
  • Work closely with sales teams to build ROI led audience packages
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with internal teams to source these audience solutions and plan, execute and measure
  • Imagine, test, iterate, and build new audience tactics as our audiences and the broader digital environment keep changing
  • Maximize revenue through leveraging direct and programmatic sales channels
  • Partner with vendors to find the best performance in audience outreach and engagement, plus manage execution costs to maintain margins
  • Lead, motivate, and coach a team of Audience Solutions experts across EMEA and North America plus technical support staff
  • Manage a sales pipeline for Audience Solutions with the Heads of Categories to monitor business conversion and ultimately revenue growth
  • Support and / or lead relationships with clients and their agencies in a consulting role to help them solving their marketing challenges

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:


  • State-of-the-art understanding of how audiences engage with content on platforms / devices (UX / UI experience).
  • Quantitative expertise; great command of digital and social analytical and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work well with multiple teams in a challenging environment.
  • Excellent story telling, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for ideas with appetite to get things done
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to make effective decisions based on commercial goals
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
