The Economist Media Lab is an incubator within The Economist dedicated to exploring new technologies and business models for digital media. The Lab's methodology involves design, storytelling, and agile thinking to create mock-ups and prototypes for new digital products and services. Past prototypes include the VR piece "RecoVR: Mosul, a collective reconstruction", which premiered at the DocLab: Seamless Reality program at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2015 and went on to win numerous awards.
The Media Lab is seeking a Media Lab Fellow for a winter/spring 2018 session, which will focus on augmented reality.
During the 10-12 week term, the Media Lab Fellow will work closely with the New Product Development team in New York and Economist journalists and editors to produce 2-3 prototypes that can be carried forward on major platforms utilizing augmented reality (e.g., Apple ARKit, Google ARCore, Windows Mixed Reality, etc.). The prototyping process will be end-to-end, involving market research, ideation, content strategy, product design, software development and partnerships, user testing, internal presentation, and release planning. Experience developing in Unity or Unreal preferred. Portfolio links encouraged.
The Media Lab Fellow will report to the VP for Product Development and Innovation and be based in New York.
In this role you will be expected to:
Work closely with the New Product Development team in New York and Economist journalists and editors on market research, ideation, content strategy, product design, software development and partnerships, user testing, internal presentation, and release planning
Produce 2-3 prototypes that can be carried forward on major platforms utilizing augmented reality
