Curently, we are seeking a Distribution Logistics Assistant for a temporary assignment to coordinate and assist with the Americas Region distribution planning, shipping, mailing, and proof of delivery of weekly, bi-monthly, and annual printed magazine titles: The Economist, 1843, and The World In from four North America manufacturing sites.


Reporting to the Distribution Logistics Manager, the position is based in Virginia and interfaces with internal global staff, the United States Postal Service, Canada Post, newsstand distributors and fulfillment, data sortation, print, and transportation partners.




How you will contribute:

  • Assist with the coordination and communication with internal staff, fulfillment and presort agents, transportation agents, and print site representatives to ensure that all information relative to distribution is received and understood

  • Assist with and occasionally prepare weekly dispatch schedules and associated print orders for The Economist using a web based system

  • Obtain and maintain proof of delivery for shipments using transportation vendor web sites and e-mail

  • Prepare and distribute weekly proof of delivery reports for direct to retail chains by sorting and downloading data from UPS web site

  • Prepare weekly newsstand delivery report

  • Respond to and resolve distribution shortages and delays as needed

  • Report delays affecting on-sale and in-home deliveries

  • Resolve newsstand shortage claims

  • Create and maintain recurring FAST appointments for weekly USPS inductions and maintain weekly scheduler reports

  • Assist with the set up and distribution coordination of The World In and 1843. Assist with special projects

  • Prepare shipment quotes using UPS and other published rates

Experience, skills and professional attributes

 The ideal skills for this role are:

  • AA/AS preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum two years in the print distribution industry, newsweekly distribution experience, knowledge of print manufacturing, distribution and shipping industry systems, and procedures
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, google mail,  and web based systems
  • The ability to work in a fast paced, creative team oriented environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organization skills with ability to prioritize, numeracy with excellent attention to detail, proactive and able to multitask, ability to respond quickly and resolve urgent challenges
