    CQ Legal is looking for an experienced business editor to direct coverage of select federal regulatory actions, particularly those dealing with capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and insurance, but also corporate governance and securities. Responsible for directing three to six reporters daily in those areas. Expertise in those areas is crucial, with knowledge of federal regulatory actions useful and knowledge of Congress an added plus. Daytime work with strict 5 PM deadline, so applicant must be able to work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressure. Needs to be able to work cooperatively as part of a tight-knit team.


    In the role you would be expected to:


    • Track and edit coverage of news including spot reports, features, graphics and other formats
    • Collaborate with other editors on news coverage, policy analysis and copy flow
    • Ensure that news report has sharp writing and attention-grabbing headlines and visuals
    • Suggest ways to promote and showcase editorial talent
    • Ensure that the team is on top of breaking news and help ensure that the team is attuned to user needs

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have: 

    • Ability to understand and explain policy news in an accurate, clear, fast and smart manner
    • Experience working with multiple platforms beyond print, including blogs, webinars and podcasts
    • A minimum of five years’ experience at major print publication
    • A commitment to strong, watchdog coverage of policy making in Washington
    • Management experience is a plus
