    We are looking for a detail-oriented reporter with the ability to interpret and analyze legislative proposals and communicate it clearly in writing.

     

    The preferred candidate will have knowledge of Capitol Hill and the legislative process and be able to decipher legislative text to provide readers with clear and accurate descriptions of such proposals relating to a variety of issues to be debated in congressional committees.

     

    An ability to facilitate relationships with congressional staff and to work in a high-paced environment under tight deadlines is necessary. Strong writing skills are required.

     

    Accountabilities

    In the role you would be expected to:

     

    • Develop and write timely stories within deadlines
    • Cultivate and maintain news sources and monitor developments in the news
    • Budget stories and maintain calendar of key dates and events in assigned coverage areas

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have: 

     

    • 1-2 years of reporting or congressional experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
    • Experience with a newspaper or a similar publication 
    • Multimedia skills

     

     To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate:

    • Researching, interviewing and writing skills
    • Ability to use social media to promote content, develop sources and interview subjects
    • Ability to do media appearances to promote work and Roll Call
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies
    • Ability to work long hours and meet strict deadlines
