    We are looking for a passionate engineer to join our Content Platform cross-functional squad; working within an agile environment.


    Content Platform is the engine for all editorial output of The Economist and sister publications across all digital outputs including text, images, audio and video. It is a cloud-native platform based on a cutting edge reactive architecture which embraces serverless technology written mainly in Golang and JavaScript. It's designed to be robust enough to stay responsive and resilient under extreme volatile load.


    How you will contribute:

    • Writing well tested, readable code
    • Being accountable alongside the technical lead for the delivery and enhancement of the content platform product whilst supporting and pairing with other members of the squad
    • Working with the squad to create, maintain and iterate solutions and standards
    • Owning and delivering feature sets within the squad
    • Ensuring a security consciousness is upheld by the squad
    • Be heavily involved in the planning process for sprint based work to ensure estimates are reasonable and the tasks can be understood by everyone
    • Identifying risks in the product team and putting in place strategies to mitigate them, i.e knowledge silos, technology changes, succession planning



    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for the role are:


    • Understanding of agile product lifecycle in software engineering (flow, feedback and continuous learning)
    • Being able to mentor and coach other engineers in the squad
    • Understanding the relationship between product, consumer and business stakeholders
    • Experience in working on distributed and event driven systems
    • Experience with the following technologies: Cloud technologies, NoSQL databases
    • Willing to cross train to AWS, Go, Nodejs 
    • Experience in working on distributed and event driven systems
    • Understanding the benefits of collated telemetry and logging
    • Be able to articulate different types and levels of testing, and where they are most appropriately used
    • An understanding of various Enterprise Integration Patterns with a focus on messaging would be extremely useful to the role
