    CQ and Roll Call brands bring up-to-date news, analysis and insights to senior decision-makers on Capitol Hill. They provide nonpartisan and accurate congressional news and information, policy updates and data analysis to subscribers.

     

    Roll Call is seeking a temporary online reporter/web production editor to join its team covering politics and policy on Capitol Hill.  Duration of this temporary role is 4 to 5 months.

     

    Flexibility is a critical trait for this job. Candidates should be proficient at writing and editing breaking news, writing headlines and captions, posting content to Roll Call’s online site and social media. We’re looking for someone who also can dive deep into a specific topic as a reporter — and own it.

     

    The ideal candidate will be organized and highly knowledgeable of AP Style, comfortable working with websites and social media channels, and possess a keen eye for detail.  A firm grasp on the workings of congressional politics, procedure and policy is preferred, but not required.

     

    The candidate will work well under deadline and accurately, clearly and quickly edit and publish news. Applicants should have at least three years of experience as a reporter and at least one year of experience as an editor for a media publication.

     

    Accountabilities

    In the role you would be expected to:

    • Produce error-free content on deadline, as well as more in-depth enterprise stories
    • Write and rewrite compelling and accurate headlines
    • Accurately and efficiently post content to the website, newsletters, mobile app and social media channels
    • Send email alerts and mobile push notifications as needed
    • Work nights and weekends when required
    • As needed, take ownership of specific news verticals as a reporter

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have: 

    • Prior reporting and editing experience
    • Working knowledge of AP Style, basic language/grammar rules
    • Basic knowledge of WordPress and publishing content online
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines
    • Ability to multitask on deadline
    • Ability to work as part of a team, willingness to take direction and pitch in
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • An ability to contribute original ideas and be an early adopter as products advance
    • Ability to quickly switch between various tasks
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
