    We are seeking a full-time Senior Producer, Video to lead a team of video producers telling visual stories about the news, events and personalities on Capitol Hill.



    In the role you would be expected to:

    • Strategize, produce and manage production of original video content for digital, social and livestream platforms.
    • Craft and execute live news shows on digital platforms from the ground up, including coordination with outside production staff, content conceptualization, show writing and editing, talent procurement, etc.
    • Make order out of chaos while coordinating day-to-day operations of video team
    • Lead video team in editorial meetings planning live shows and video content within shows, collaborate with newsroom leaders on content needs, including on-camera talent, data for motion graphics, publication timing and alerting
    • Write, critique and edit scripts that are engaging, informative, sometimes fun and have a unique voice
    • Staff and manage some field shoots; interview high-profile subjects on camera with strong, edgy questions that hold the powerful accountable

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have: 

    • Significant experience producing live newscasts from start to finish
    • A background covering politics in major media market
    • 3 to 5 years of experience producing high-quality videos at a national news organization
    • An understanding of new forms of storytelling, as well as an affinity for audience engagement on social video platforms
    • A command of fact-checking and journalistic best practices
    • Experience juggling multiple video story formats — from short social-friendly video to longer, programmatic approaches including mini-documentaries
    • Ability to coach video shooters and editors on dynamic camera angles and editing styles


    To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate:

    • Strong editorial leadership skills and experience managing people
    • Video shooting and lighting expertise
    • Editing experience including Adobe Premiere or Final Cut; Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator competency
    • Motion graphics editing experience in Adobe AfterEffects a plus
    • Understanding of site maintenance and ability to package content for multiple audiences (website, social)
    • Video codecs & export settings understanding
    • Upload video process & using metadata/tags
