    We are seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to join The Economist in London.

    The Economist’s product team is a passionate group of digital professionals who look after a number of digital products and services, both facing our readers and The Economist's businesses. The team consists of a range of skills, from product managers to delivery professionals, working in cross functional teams, on mobile products and experiences. Fostering strong agile engineering practices and making data-driven decisions the team plays a pivotal role in making our business partners deliver growth.

     

    We are a multi-disciplinary team working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, who value honest opinion and open debate.

    We’re responsible for designing, building, testing and releasing one of our key products for customer experience, managing all the customer experiences that subscribers are exposed to ranging from e-commerce down to managing their subscriptions on-line. We’re in the business of building modern, state-of-the-art products, and delivering a first-rate user experience is essential.

     

    We build our software incrementally, iteratively, and continuously, so you’ll be able to see new work go live to over 11 million visitors around the globe every month. Our flavour of agile has been heavily influenced by Scrum and Kanban, and if something isn’t working, we change it.

    Accountabilities

    How you will contribute:

    • Work alongside, support, and motivate delivery teams, and manage stakeholder expectations
    • Use visual means to foster clear communication between delivery teams and various stakeholder groups
    • Co-ordinate the delivery of enterprise-class web applications
    • Champion agile and lean best practices, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement
    • Manage delivery scope and risks throughout the project lifecycle
    • Create and maintain lightweight project plans, incorporating budgeting and forecasting
    • Create clear metrics to track progress of the team and report to stakeholders
    • Coach on Agile practices and nurture positive team relationships

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are:

    • Experience managing software development projects, and are familiar with agile and lean methodologies. A strong communicator with the ability to proactively manage stakeholders by partnering on decisions
    • Experience conducting the Scrum Master role for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
    • Experience of coaching teams, in a collaborative environment with a flat structure to deliver projects successfully
    • Act as a servant leader exhibiting characteristics like listening, empathy, and persuasion in order to enable colleagues to perform their roles effectively
    • Ability to successfully work in a team environment by offering personal counsel, and nurturing positive relationships within the team
    • Proven examples of using initiative and creativity to achieve project milestones
    • Experience of being able to challenge and influence decisions
    • Ability to determine and report on key project metrics to stakeholders with the ability to adapt project plans based on project reality

    Desirable

    • Are pragmatic and flexible, with a willingness to take on different roles and responsibilities in order to help successfully deliver a project
    • Highly organised and detail orientated
    • Demonstrable experience of delivering complex projects
    • Experience working with offshore teams
    • Have a deep understanding of the product development cycle from project discovery to final delivery
    • Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team
