Accountabilities

We are looking for freelance authors who can:

  • Get deep into the research on a public policy topic, including reviewing the findings and nuances of leading academic studies and datasets
  • Supplement existing research by conducting interviews with prominent experts and thinkers and drawing out new insights
  • Convert dense evidence into a concise and engaging narrative, that draws in potential readers, eschews jargon and provides actionable findings
  • Are available to work on a freelance basis and can commit sufficient time to projects
  • Have 3-5 years of experience writing public facing reports on policy issues and trends (or at least 5+ examples of similar work).

How an engagement works

  • All EIU projects are delivered by a full-time team of project managers, consultants and researchers, based in our offices across the world
  • For suitable projects, the EIU project team will hire a freelance author to lead the write-up of an individual deliverable. Note: All freelance authors must be first registered on the EIU’s contributor database
  • As a starting point, we will send a project brief with the scope of work (including requirements, timeframe, delivery dates, and fee) to suitable authors in our contributor network
  • Following alignment with an author, we will send them a signed contributor agreement confirming the full scope of work
  • During the project, we expect the author to available for scheduled catch-up calls, and to send research updates and interim deliverables (e.g. a short 5 page structure document)
  • Following submission of the core deliverable, we expect the author to be available to respond timely to change requests from the EIU and/or the client
