    Reporting to the CEO of the EIU with a dotted line to the Editor-in-Chief of the Economist newspaper, the Global Head of Research, Insight and Editorial will provide intellectual leadership and oversight across all of the businesses within the EIU portfolio, ensuring that all content produced for our clients is high quality, actionable insight which is consistent with the Economist’s brand values.


    The Global Head of Research, Insight and Editorial will also directly lead all editorial staff within the EIU’s subscription and corporate network (ECN) businesses, working closely with the Commercial Director for Subscriptions and ECN.


    How you will contribute:

    • You will be the senior intellectual leader for the EIU, establishing and maintaining a reputation internally and externally for personal editorial authority; you will represent the business at senior levels with our clients and the media
    • You will set and safeguard quality standards for EIU products and services across all of the EIU businesses, enforcing appropriate rules regarding editorial ethics, integrity and independence; you will report regularly to the Editor-in-Chief on these editorial activities
    • You will directly lead the global EIU subscriptions editorial team and the ECN editorial team
    • Provide strong management oversight of the editorial teams, ensuring that they develop and produce high quality and commercially viable editorial products and services
    • You will be a key contributor to EIU strategy development, ensuring that the editorial teams are used in a way which drives the business forward; you will work closely with the commercial director for subscriptions and ECN
    • You will relentlessly seek ways of helping the EIU deliver the ever higher quality insight to our clients, continuously supporting and guiding editorial staff and leaders across all of the businesses
    • In your position as an intellectual leader for the EIU you will also provide leadership and guidance to other teams within the wider Group such as the Content Solutions team
    • You will be one of the leading public figures for the EIU, demonstrating intellectual leadership to clients and in the media
    • You will continuously monitor the quality and independence of all EIU content being published, maintaining close relationships with both the Editor-in-Chief and other senior members of the Economist Newspaper editorial team
    • You will be involved in the appointment of all senior editorial staff across the EIU portfolio
    • Ensuring that the editorial team works effectively with other business units as appropriate
    • Maintain regular content review meetings with the Editor in Chief of The Economist
    • You will be closely involved in the development of new and existing products

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role include:

    • Deep knowledge of global economics and politics with demonstrable experience of presenting and facilitating at the C-suite level
    • Preferably experience of operating in an environment where brand integrity and principles guide all of the products and insight being produced and are deeply embedded in the culture of the organisation
    • Broad experience of presenting to clients across different industries and sectors, speaking at conferences, chairing expert panels and undertaking regular media appearances
    • Experience of leading, motivating and developing analytical and editorial teams
    • Experience of managing and leading within a B2B digital publishing business
    • Ability to travel extensively
