    Our Global Technology team is looking to hire a Head of Business Solutions, reporting to the Global Head of IT, who will lead the teams that enable and support our core business processes from Marketing and Sales to Finance and HR. This role is highly visible within the business and the technology group, creating a bridge between business stakeholders and delivery teams.


    The role demands a high degree of business acumen and considerable experience with Salesforce.com to not only respond to but anticipate business requirements.


    Salesforce is a pivotal platform within The Economist Group and is widely used across several businesses and revenue streams. Our implementation spans five instances including Sales, Service, Marketing and Community Cloud. We have integrations with third party solutions covering marketing automation, finance, subscription management, project management and event registration.


    Additionally, this role will oversee our business systems including Finance, which is critical to and linked with all of our business processes, and HR, for which we’re launching new platforms to enable ambitious business plans.

    How you will contribute:

    • Articulate a vision for people, tools and processes that aligns with company objectives
    • Manage the technology roadmap and priorities
    • Ensure that effective solutions are proposed, tested, implemented and continuously improved
    • Ensure that feature development follows good practice, that an effective governance framework is in place and that solutions are secure by design
    • Ensure that appropriate monitoring, alerting and response processes are in place
    • Manage and develop a team in London, UK and Gurgaon, India. Recruit as necessary
    • Create a supportive work environment and coach the team to increase velocity and deliver high quality outcomes
    • Manage vendor and partner relationships, working closely with our Purchasing Manager on contract negotiations
    • Stay on top of industry trends, identify gaps in our practices and propose new ideas
    • Be hands on, helping and guiding the team when challenges arise

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for the role are:

    • Senior level management experience leading both co-located and remote teams
    • Demonstrable experience of presenting to and influencing senior commercial leaders
    • Experience in creating product strategies and roadmaps
    • Experience using a recognised business analysis methodology, and scrum development methodology
    • Experience in mapping business processes to the technical solution, and undertaking impact analysis
    • Managing vendors, partners and contract negotiations
    • Experience in delivering and integrating solutions, particularly across Marketing, Sales and Finance functions
    • Demonstrable experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud
    • Comfortable with marketing automation tools (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo or Eloqua is preferable)
    • Knowledge of Finance platforms and processes (Oracle or PeopleSoft is preferable)
    • A strong awareness of good security practices and business continuity planning methods
    • Acute commercial awareness
    • Excellent English speaking and writing skills
    • An ability to create trust and build relationships with teammates, peers, colleagues and external partners
    • A preference for working collaboratively in a fast-paced, learning and ‘winning together’ culture
