Based in New York or Washington, D.C., the Principal will work with the team to grow our business in the Americas. This is a key client-facing role, with team management responsibilities, in an entrepreneurial, high-growth, global division. The ideal candidate will bring credibility in their area of expertise, intellectual ambition, a commercial appetite, and a collaborative mind-set.

 

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

 

Project execution

  • Conceptualize client solutions and develop innovative methodologies and research techniques appropriate to ensure client goals are met
  • Acts as senior project leader for multiple client engagements simultaneously
  • Responsible for final results, quality of the project, communicating key insights, and overall client satisfaction
  • Effectively manage project team members, including performance management

Business development

  • Serve as a senior client lead for key regional accounts, using expertise and influence to deepen relationships and renew and grow these accounts
  • Actively support business development activities through the generation of compelling proposals for new business development
  • Represent the EIU at key regional fora, client presentations, expert panels, and other external engagements
  • Oversee regional consultant-driven business development opportunities, actively guiding, shaping and helping to execute the consultant-led business development strategy 

Capacity building

  • Provide intellectual leadership to the Americas team across a range of issue areas and methodologies
  • Coach, train and mentor other team members in matters of career and personal development.
  • Develop methods and approaches for research/services that will help to scale up the Policy and Thought Leadership business and to ensure consistent quality of output.

Management

  • Manage regional team members, including planning, directing and overseeing the day-to-day activities; and overseeing project resourcing and professional development;
  • Support the Regional Head in developing the strategy for the business
  • Support the Regional Head in running the operational side of the business, including team resourcing and managing finances and profitability

Experience, skills and professional attributes

Ideal skills and attributes include:

  • Education to degree level, master’s degree preferred
  • Expert knowledge of research methodologies and strong experience in consulting/project management
  • Considerable experience conducting research programs in key issue areas, for example globalization, trade and finance; climate, resources and sustainability; technology and society; and workforce, education and demographics
  • Client-facing experience with corporate executives and/or policymakers
  • Excellent presentation and moderation/chairing skills
  • Excellent stakeholder-management skills
  • Keen interest and ability in actively growing the Thought Leadership + Policy business through business development activities
  • Experience successfully fund-raising or generating new business in the public or private sectors
  • Strong knowledge of client organizations in the Americas region, including among governments, international institutions, corporations and foundations
  • Ability to regularly communicate goals, expectations and objectives (including on strategy)
  • Experience in planning and monitoring revenue and profitability, and effectively managing staff resources
