We are looking for a Strategy Manager to join our team. You will help in the identification, analysis, strategic development, and ownership of new growth areas and be reporting into the Manager of Business Growth This is a new role focusing on growing The Economist beyond our B2C subscriptions business in core markets.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute?

 

Develop opportunities for The Economist to grow into new markets with new products, through:

  • Assessing and prioritising potential expansion opportunities 
  • Leading research into market, competitor, and customers
  • Designing in-depth business cases alongside key business stakeholders
  • Developing the trial of potential new activities, establishing criteria for success and iterating our approach to rapidly test against criteria

 

Scope, conduct, and present commercial analysis and research to aid business decision-making, through:

  • Leading on longer term growth opportunity development projects
  • Analysing the financial implications of different decisions within operations, marketing, and product
  • Taking on ad hoc analysis requests to support the Subscriptions Leadership Team

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role include:

 

  • Strong analytical skills -a data-driven decision maker who is comfortable analysing data and deriving insights in excel, through detailed model-building in particular
  • Great commercial awareness - able to structure an approach to answering business questions with a strong grasp on strategic implications of decisions
  • Attention to detail - you sweat the details and take care in your work so that you deliver to a consistently excellent standard
  • A problem-solver, not a task do-er, comfortable working without detailed direction, and with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • A positive attitude, team-player, and a sense of humour
  • Excellent candidates may have the following experience or similar:
    • Solid Experience working in a top-tier consulting firm
    • Currently undertaking, or previously completed and MBA, following several successful years at a previous role in industry
    • Past experience in and knowledge of B2C media, and subscription business models
