Senior Data Engineering Manager

The Role

We are recruiting data engineers and leaders across all levels to create a best in class global data engineering hub based out of Gurgaon.  This group will build the data platform and products to support the analytics, insights and data science needs for our core subscription business, Economist Intelligence Unit, Client Solutions and Events business. Data has always been at the heart of the Economist Group, and ultimately we aim to help the business make data driven decisions based on real time, actionable insights. This position is for a Senior Data Engineering Manager.

How you will contribute: 

• You will hire and lead a team of 9-10 data engineers to build data pipelines and data lakes for analytics,reporting and AI/ML use cases.
• You will have end to end ownership of a multi-TB scale data platform on Snowflake/AWS serving business units across The Economist Group.
• You are accountable for the team’s feature velocity. You will work with delivery and product managers to prioritize, plan, and execute releases, while meeting operational KPIs. 
• You will set the team up for success and maintain high engagement levels through mentoring, coaching, performance reviews and recruiting the right talent. 
• You will provide technical expertise to the team throughout the data product life cycle.
• You will work closely with Data product management, and Enterprise Architecture to define the product vision, and data strategy.

The ideal skills for this role include:

• You have a degree in software engineering, computer science or a similar field and 12+ years of data engineering project experience in distributed data systems/platforms.
• You have 3+ years of experience in leading teams, and people management.
• You have 6+ years hands-on experience in using Python/Scala/Java and SQL to build batch/real-time data pipelines.
• You have worked on heterogeneous data stores - MPP databases (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift), RDBMSes, NoSQL etc.
• You have experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks, Qubole, Azure/GCP, or AWS EMR/Glue
• You are well versed with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

To succeed in this role it would be an advantage if you possess:

• Experience with AWS services and infrastructure.
• Experience with microservices and APIs.
• Experience building Machine Learning pipelines.
