We have recently launched our new ‘Future Customer Experience’ platform to deliver a greatly improved customer experience to all Economist subscribers and we have further significant investments planned across our product, customer experience and data platform estate. 

 

To align with a new business operating model, we have defined a technology matrix structure leveraging functional experts to drive excellence and consistency in key technology capabilities and delivery leaders to deliver change and support for specific technical domains and business units.  

 

The Head of Platform Architecture will report directly to the Group CIO, be a member of the Group Technology Leadership Team and is the functional expert responsible for defining the technology roadmap and architectural design for the group’s customer, business and data platforms including how those platforms are integrated with the products which we engineer.

 

This role will be key to extending and increasing our functional architecture capability to our core group-wide platforms and will work closely alongside the Head of Product Architecture and the platform delivery teams to enable delivery of ongoing improvements to support the requirements of all business units and the overall business strategy set by our Chief Executive Officer.

Role

The Head of Platform Architecture will define and drive technology strategy, architecture and the multi-year technical roadmap for the Group’s platforms to deliver on our growth strategy.  Working closely in collaboration with all delivery and functional leadership teams across the group-wide technology matrix organisation you will partner in particular with our platform teams to define and then action the technical changes required to deliver your roadmap

  • The Economist Group Technology Leadership Team (Global Team)
  • Senior leaders and management across all business units covering product, data, marketing, sales, service, finance, HR and other business functions as relevant
  • Senior management across all technology, product, PMO and data delivery functions

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Product Architecture to define an overall Enterprise Architecture roadmap
  • Establish best practice and work collaboratively with global technology peers to define, implement and enable successful delivery of this roadmap against P&L goals
  • Establish strong, group-wide matrix relationships and provide leadership and deep functional architecture expertise for the Group as a whole
  • Market watch to drive innovation and strategies for exploiting the most out of our platform investments 
  • Ensure our platforms and ecosystem support our technology led objectives pertaining to: performance, availability, security, velocity, quality and cost optimisation
  • Deliver on agreed group-wide technology objectives and KPIs for the function

Experience 

  • Has defined and delivered an enterprise level technology roadmap to achieve the strategic goals of a content and product led, digital and subscription media business 
  • Has in depth domain experience building high performing platform architectures in  the following domains: 
    • Marketing, Sales, Service, Experience and Billing automation (Salesforce Marketing, Sales, Service and Experience Clouds or equivalent) 
    • Subscription e-commerce, billing and payments (Zuora or equivalent)
    • Also highly desired: Authentication (Salesforce Identity or equivalent), Financial Management (Peoplesoft or equivalent), HR Management (Sage HR or equivalent)
  • Has broad experience in data platform technologies through all data lifecycle stages covering: sourcing, enhancing, persisting and using data
  • Can define, analyse and clearly communicate different large scale scenarios at speed to drive informed, commercially driven, pragmatic decisions
  • Has worked effectively in a global, matrix environment and demonstrated experience of satisfying multiple senior stakeholders for their strategic needs
  • Has worked effectively in a global team with different delivery methodologies and locations
