The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Healthcare Consulting Division (EIU HC) offers sector-focused research and strategic advisory services for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem.


The Health Practice offers independent, specialised health policy analysis and clinical evidence synthesis. The Practice output seeks to drive effective organizational decisions (at a system, population and individual level) and impactful external engagement by interpreting and communicating the implications of underlying health trends


The Analyst will support a number of projects around evidence based clinical research and health policy analyses that drive effective organizational decisions and impactful external engagement. The position will also entail working with the Associates to develop material that engages new clientele in both the public and private sector by promoting our capabilities, interpreting customer needs and presenting compelling insights.


This entails providing expertise, and direction across the different project lifecycles:


  1. Project management, overseeing the different components of the research, and alignment to objectives
  2. Research & deliverable generation, ensuring relevance & accuracy
  3. Presentation and communication of results to clients / targeted audiences


Additionally, the position includes representing EIU HC to clients (government, private sector and non-governmental actors), including the co-management of specific repeat clients.


How you will contribute:


The job requirements listed below cover key domains (Project execution & management, Proposal creation, Client engagement, Team management, Practice strategy) given the level of the specialist position, all within providing health insight and expertise for EIU HC solutions.


  • Provide health research and oversight: You will work in a team of healthcare analysts or associates on projects which assess aspects surrounding health systems and related policies. This entails such things as country comparisons, indexes, scorecard development and epidemiological studies including cost analysis. This will include providing a literature review stage for most relevant projects
  • Project manage: You may liaise with the client during the course of the project engagement, including communicating project updates, presenting key milestones, pre-empting project issues, managing different work streams within projects
  • Conceptualize new projects: You will support the development of new opportunities by understanding and translating client needs and applying appropriate methodologies, while working closely with the different EIU HC team members
  • Engage with clients / marketplace: You will be part of the team that interacts with and develops projects to clients, representing EIU HC to clients and key stakeholders. This may include taking a direct role with specific repeat clients as well as supporting efforts with key accounts, thought leadership and new business development
  • Mentor staff: At a later stage you may contribute to the support of junior analysts. This includes training them in appropriate methodologies, supporting them in using and developing the health policy skills required

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • A health policy qualification, with a solid understanding of international markets
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in health research or research design, evaluation and interpretation
  • Examples of reviewing and appraising health policy, systems and broader socioeconomic environment
  • An ability to communicate complex research concepts and medical information clearly to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Successfully interact and deliver projects to clients
  • Well-developed health and conceptual thinking and an ability to problem solve
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Experience in working under pressure, setting priorities and managing tight deadlines
