In this role you will report to the Production Manager, providing support to Research, Editorial, Digital and Production teams as and when required. As well as generating large volumes of charts and graphics in response to analyst requests, you will proactively recommend suitable ways to display and visualise data to improve our current charting capabilities. Very familiar with a range of charting and mapping software, you will be comfortable making software recommendations, based on project requirements and you will be comfortable providing guidance as to how to implement new charting tools and software - both in terms of advising on suitable workflows and in terms of providing user training and support.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute: 

  • You will use your knowledge of charting and mapping software and tools to advise our Digital and Production teams on the most appropriate solutions for ongoing and upcoming projects
  • You will be comfortable implementing changes to charting software and processes - providing guidance on workflow implications, providing training to users and acting as the go-to person for queries relating to charting tools
  • You will work as part of our global Production graphics team to prepare charts, maps and other infographics for our EIU subscription products and for other parts of the EIU business
  • Tasks may include sourcing data, upon the receipt of a detailed request from one of our analyst team, and then preparing graphics that meet EIU house style guidelines and layout standards, across a variety of formats (EPS, GIF, PNG, SVG, JPEG, PDF)
  • You will comfortable working to analyst requests, but you will also be capable of providing suggestions on the best way to display data
  • You will support the Production graphics and processing teams on additional requests when required, including providing support to more junior team members

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • Knowledge of a wide range of current charting and mapping software
  • Experience in making business/workflow recommendations in regards to charting/mapping
  • Excellent proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop and MsOffice (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) for the creation of charts maps and infographics
  • Strong design skills including typography, layout and data presentation for print and the web
  • Experience in making recommendations for the best ways to visualise data based on a data series provided to you
  • Previous experience in managing small teams and workloads
  • A minimum of one year of working in a similar role/online publishing
  • A strong ability to multi-task and move between distinct projects
  • A good understanding of the importance of brand guidelines and how to work within them
  • Fluency in English, self-motivated and a good team player
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills and an excellent eye for detail
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and staff at all levels

The ability to perform well, work effectively, stay calm and reliable under pressure
