The Economist Events, the award-winning events department of The Economist Group, produces 70+ events a year and is seeking a Programme Editor. Our programme team is responsible for developing editorial content and recruiting high-profile speakers and moderators, ensuring we meet The Economist's exacting standards for editorial quality and integrity. The Programme Editor works closely with the Head of Programmes, Asia to fulfil this promise.


The successful candidate will take responsibility for major strategic events. Outstanding and sensitive communication and negotiation skills are essential along with the ability to carefully balance our strict editorial guidelines with our clients' commercial objectives. The successful applicant should have both extensive experience in working with demanding clients, as well as a deep understanding and respect for the editorial integrity of our brand.


How you will contribute:

  • Personally deliver a number of key event programmes, including programme development, speaker and moderator recruitment and some supervision of programme assistants
  • Work in collaboration with the business development team to engage commercial supporters of the event
  • Lead some select strategic proposals and pitches
  • Support Head of Programmes, Asia to execute events business strategy. Lead new event development for select events, play a key supporting role for others; contribute ideas and join brainstorms
  • Build and maintain key relationships across the group (including commercial and editorial), experimenting with and executing new ways of working together

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • 5+ years experience in event programme development for large-scale events and high-level speaker recruitment
  • Strong commercial acumen, experience in dealing with senior-level clients.
  • Experience dealing with government is a must
  • Experience in Asia
  • Strategic and tactical thinking, outstanding project management and organisational skills
  • A clear understanding of The Economistbrand and editorial values
