Economist Impact’s Policy & Insights team specialises in delivering research and engagement programmes that use evidence and data to drive change on the critical economic and public policy issues facing our world. Our clients include government bodies, international organisations and corporates, and we provide evidence, insights and advice to shape their policies and programmes.Our four core thematic practice areas include (1) Health, (2) Globalisation, Trade & Finance, (3) Sustainability, Climate Change & Natural Resources, and (4) Technology and Society. 


The Policy & Insights team in Asia is now looking for a Senior Manager with a demonstrated understanding of the financial sector to work within an internationally-focused and diverse team. Candidates can be based in Singapore, Hong Kong or Sydney. 



How you will contribute:


Project execution

  • Develop quantitative and qualitative methodologies and research techniques to drive new, analytic insights on key policy and research questions (particularly on issues related to the banking, financial services, insurance and related sectors);
  • Act as project leader for multiple client engagements simultaneously;
  • Be responsible for final results, quality of the project and overall client satisfaction;
  • Effectively manage project team members, including managing their time and performance;
  • Present interim project and final project deliverables to clients and their stakeholders;
  • Build partnerships and collaborate with other Economist Impact functional teams to ensure client satisfaction and project success.

Business development

  • Serve as a consultant and commercial liaison, working to deepen client relationships, and collaborate closely with representatives of other Economist Group businesses in Asia;
  • Serve as a client contact for key accounts – use influence and position to renew and grow these accounts, deepening the relationships with these clients; build and maintain relationships with key clients to ensure business is renewed and expanded; 
  • Actively support business development activities through the generation of compelling thought-starters, concept ideas and proposals for new business development; 
  • Invest in building knowledge in a thematic area to create practical and applied solutions to take to market and solve client needs.    

Capacity building

  • Coach, train and mentor other team members in matters of career and personal development;
  • Develop methods and approaches for research/services that will help to scale up Economist Impact’s Policy & Insights business and to ensure consistent quality of output;
  • Collaborate with senior team members within and across regions along with the global thematic heads;
  • Work with other parts of the Economist Group to secure valuable input to Economist Impact projects. 


  • Manage Analysts and Senior Analysts, including planning and overseeing the project resourcing and career development of team members;
  • Support Regional Director & Team Lead(s) in regional resource assignments for both business development and project delivery.

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The desirable skills for this role include: 

  • Seven years or more of consulting, think tank or other research experience with at least three years in a Managerial position;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to translate complex research and analysis into clear and jargon-free prose highlighting key findings and policy analysis;
  • Strong data and policy analysis skills; ability resolve complex and unfamiliar problems in a timely manner;
  • Client management experience; comfortable with client interaction and interest in building relationships;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create easy working relationships with clients, partners and the internal team;
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead project teams and meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Ability to develop business from new and / or existing client accounts;
  • Energy and desire to grow as part of a highly entrepreneurial team.
