We are looking for a global Head of IT Operations & Infrastructure to join our fantastic team of ~20 people based in Hong Kong, Gurgaon, London and New York. The team’s scope includes the whole ecosystem of devices, workplace tools & platforms and infrastructure, both on-premise and cloud. Your strategic goals will be to strengthen the Group’s technical & security foundations and to create an exceptional employee experience everywhere that technology is involved. You will be driven and motivated by a desire to work with a diverse group of people to build something meaningful. You love taking great ideas, testing and implementing them to move the business forward.



  • Define a vision, mission, strategy and roadmap for the global IT Operations & Infrastructure team to deliver an outstanding service to the business
  • Take ownership of a comprehensive portfolio of communication, collaboration, productivity, identity & access management and security tools
  • Build stakeholder partnerships to understand and anticipate business needs then identify solutions to achieve strategic objectives
  • Ensure excellent levels of service for colleagues working remotely and in 20+ offices across America, Asia and EMEA
  • Act as an escalation point for critical incidents
  • Contribute to the global Technology strategy as a member of the Technology Leadership Team
  • Foster collaboration within and between teams and be a strong advocate for win-win solutions
  • Outline a digital workplace strategy that enhances employee engagement and collaboration
  • Gather and analyse feedback from teammates and Technology peers to improve the experience of working at The Economist Group and increase our eNPS score
  • Develop the team structure and operating model, adapting as business demands evolve
  • Think both tactically and strategically to solve thorny business challenges
  • Conceive, design, implement and sustain enterprise technology solutions; adapt and iterate to ensure a seamless employee experience
  • Securely connect 2,000 colleagues and partners around the world using effective workplace tools
  • Define and apply standards to ensure the ongoing manageability of operational processes
  • Partner with the Service Management team to identify appropriate metrics and KPIs that drive continuous improvement
  • Incentivise the creation and maintenance of concise, usable runbook, policy and process documentation
  • Lead by example, listening attentively to teammates and colleagues, showing empathy and living the values of The Economist Group

Experience, skills and professional attributes

  • Management experience and credible leadership attributes
  • Confident communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Cultural awareness and experience as part of an international team
  • Experience in IT Operations and/or Infrastructure roles and expertise in relevant platforms and applications
  • Thorough understanding of cyber security tactics and frameworks (eg. MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, HM Cyber Essentials)
  • Experience managing workplace technology, remote access/hybrid working solutions and office relocation projects
  • In depth knowledge of service management (eg. ITIL 4), workflow management (eg. kanban, scrum) and knowledge management processes
  • Proficiency in writing and presenting proposals that are supported by analysed & visualised data and financial forecasts
