Introduction

As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps clients prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic recommendations. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries. The Country Analysis division of the EIU is seeking to establish the role of Senior Analyst, Middle East & Africa. As well as being one of the Senior Analysts in the regional team, you will be required to identify skills gaps and areas for improvement within the country analyst team, and help shape and deliver staff training with the aim of delivering the EIU’s existing portfolio of country analysis products and services. The Senior Analyst will also be called upon to promote and present the EIU by participating in external client facing events and media briefings, whilst representing the Country Analysis team internally at senior management group meetings when required.

Accountabilities

In the role you would be expected to:

  • To be an intellectual leader within the regional team, providing leading analysis and insight on some of the major countries in that region
  • Show a strong sense of editorial judgement and ensure required quality standards for EIU products and services are met at all times.
  • Promote our work on this topic within TEG and externally, and liaise directly with external clients and media organisation on behalf of The EIU.
  • Provide briefing engagements to clients when required
  • To contribute to the commercial success of the Country Analysis business via a focus on value-creation for clients.
  • Provide strategic insight and input to help develop the EIU’s products and services.
  • To work collaboratively with other senior EIU staff members to support new business development and implement divisional strategy
  • Implement training and onboarding strategies to enhance skills across the team.
  • Work with both analysts and research analysts to mentor them and help them develop their macroeconomic and forecasting skills.

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:



  • Experience in senior positions and/or demonstrable experience

  • A thorough understanding of macroeconomic data and forecasting techniques.

  • Very strong written and oral communication skills.

  • A Master degree and/or MBA

  • Strong knowledge in MS Office especially Excel, Access and Powerpoint


You will be able to demonstrate:



  • Advanced people and project management skills, with focus on prioritising and delegation.

  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure consistent high quality products and services.

  • Strong interest and analytical rigour in issues covering economic, political and risk analysis.

  • An ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas and insights with staff, senior management and external clients.
