The role of Senior Manager, Health Policy Research & Insights in Asia, will work with our Global Head and senior team subject matter experts to define and execute a global strategy for our Health leadership area. The Senior Manager in Asia will play a key role in identifying the priority thematic areas in health and assessing major client needs - at a regional and global level - in order to design highly relevant, engaging and cutting edge research programs. The Senior Manager will work closely with the Commercial team (particularly across Asia) to drive business development activities, including client relationship building, proposal development and presentation of successful engagements.

 

The successful candidate has recognized expertise in health policy, as well as extensive experience overseeing and conducting research, creating compelling analyses, and presenting at high level events. The individual also has had exposure to the key players across different stakeholders in health and knowledge of the latest trends and developments in this space, with a focus on health system and related dynamics across the Asia region. Lastly, we are seeking a person who is passionate about improving health outcomes, with excellent project and client management skills, high energy and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment.

 

This role will be based in Singapore.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

 

Areas of expertise

  • Exhibits strategic expertise in key trends shaping the future of health & wellbeing, from a disease, system and societal lens
  • Develop and demonstrate expertise across key domains related to health (health systems in Asia, therapeutic areas such as oncology, social determinants of health, etc.)
  • Exhibits expertise with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and demonstrates an ability to innovate and adapt new approaches
  • Can represent at client events and conferences and present effectively to public audiences
  • Provide health intellectual leadership to the global team, demonstrating in your own work and behavior a commitment to excellence, rigor, and creativity

Project / Research Oversight

  • Provides quality assurance and oversight for multiple research projects and client engagements simultaneously, overseeing a project research team and ensuring appropriate research methodologies
  • Produces or oversees production of high quality written output that is evidence-driven, insight-led and compelling to target audiences; well written
  • Takes responsibility for final results, quality of the project, desired impact of program and overall client satisfaction
  • Effectively lead a team of project managers and health team members, including performance management
  • Ensure that all the work you deliver meets the quality standards, branding rules and editorial guidelines set by The Economist Group

Business Development

  • Responsible for proactively identifying and developing concepts for large scale initiatives and bespoke programs drawing on deep expertise in health
  • Work actively with the business development team, shaping and helping to execute on opportunities, and coordinating with others in Economist Impact
  • Is advanced in presenting Economist Impact competencies / relevant health policy cases to high-level clients
  • Interpret client needs and develop winning proposals that present the full breadth of the health leadership area and Economist Impact capabilities
  • Serves as a senior client contact for accounts – uses influence and position to renew and grow these accounts, deepening the relationships with these clients
  • Support the the global head of health in developing a commercial strategy across Asia
  • Serve as a public face of the health leadership area in the Asia region, working with the marketing and other leaders to build its profile among key audiences

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Leads in delivering proposals and doing client presentations
  • Takes charge on relationships with key client stakeholders
  • Anticipates and navigates problematic situations
  • Proactively plans and advances discussions with current clients to secure renewal and/or upsells
  • Develops quality relationships with important external experts and key opinion leaders in order to foster a wide network of contacts

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The desirable skills, experience and qualifications for this role include:

  • A post-graduate degree with a science, health or health policy focus
  • At least seven years or more of research, consulting or healthcare sector experience working in areas related to policy analyses
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of health dynamics and drivers of change; expertise in health system dynamics across Asia is strongly desired
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to translate complex research and analysis into clear and jargon-free prose highlighting key findings and policy analysis
  • Strong data, policy and health evidence analysis skills with experience working with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Client management experience; comfortable with stakeholder interaction and interest in building relationships;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create easy working relationships with clients, partners and the internal team
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead project teams and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Energy and desire to grow as part of a highly entrepreneurial team
  • Interest in building a public profile as an expert in key health domains
  • Fluent English language skills; fluency in a second language an advantage
