The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence on economics, politics and business to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.   The Economist Corporate Network (ECN) business of the EIU. ECN is a briefing, insight and networking service for C-suite executives of multinational firms operating in nine important emerging market cities. Through our members-only C-suite forums we help international firms understand the political, economic and business environments of the high-potential but challenging markets where they operate.   ECN delivers business insight in a number of ways: - Through a program of meetings that create the opportunity to hear from outside experts and peers - Through private briefings (presentations) delivered to members at their management, strategy or client meetings - Through summary reports and data (covering key economies and business issues)   As the Associate Director of The Economist Corporate Network in Beijing you will play a major role in leading and building the network in Beijing, and supporting the networks in other cities as required. With the support of the China Director, you will deliver a full suite of editorial services to members including advisory briefings, webinars, meetings, analysis and data, drawing upon the resources and knowledge base of the wider EIU.   The right candidate will have the confidence and charisma to engage senior executives and be a credible knowledge partner; excellent analytical capabilities and the ability to convey compelling analysis persuasively; and the skills to moderate highly interactive discussions and meetings (or ability to acquire them). You should be motivated by having a public profile, and enjoy talking to business people in both a professional and social context. You should also be comfortable representing the Economist brand in the media and at public events. You should be confident that, with the ECN platform, you could build a network in Beijing’s business community. You will need to be able to build strong relationships both inside and outside of The Economist Group, and be comfortable operating in an environment where you will need to get support from other senior colleagues through influencing them rather than through having line management.   You will work with the China Director to conceive of and execute a program of events to deliver insight to our members in Beijing. Some of these will be large plenary events that you will moderate and source panelists and speakers for. Other events will be smaller, such as curated lunches. You should have strong presentation skills and be able to moderate an engaging, insightful and actionable discussion.      Working with a dedicated sales and account management team, you will support the financial performance of the Beijing network.While you will not have a personal sales target, you will be expected to show business acumen and be an active driver of profitable growth.     A diverse range of backgrounds would be suitable for this role. For example, past successful profiles in ECN have included being an academic at a business school, a senior journalist, a management consultant, a strategy officer at a large company, a role in a membership organization such as a Chamber of Commerce, a diplomat, an economist, or a relevant role in a government department.
